Implantologija
A complex branch of dentistry representing a combination of surgical and prosthetic know-how and skills, which specialises in dental implantation for compensating a missing tooth root and then attaching a dental crown, as a functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of one or more missing teeth.
Protocols in implantology, therapies, patient management and monitoring are established by experts in maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery, implantology and dental prosthetics.
The modern implantology era began in 1952, when Per-Ingvar Branemark from the University of Gothenburg, named the father of modern implantology, confirmed in this research that a bone growing around an implant fused with it without rejection. Thirteen years later, in 1965, the first titanium implant was produced and placed in Gösta Larsson, a patient from Sweden (for more about the history of implantology, please visit our blog).
Dental implants are foreign bodies made from pure titanium, which is biocompatible with human organic tissue. Implants are placed in the maxilla or mandible and, after a certain period of time, they firmly integrate with a bone. A dental crown is attached to an implant as a prosthetic restoration, thus fully compensating for a missing tooth. At the same time, such tooth can be used as a bridge denture mount.
Advantages of implants:
Implants can compensate for one tooth, several or all teeth.
In implantology, we apply the most sophisticated technology and procedures of global implantology brands: Bredent, Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Bicon.
